National AGM and Conference

Coming together to celebrate and reflect!

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) fulfills all the formal business requirements it must - but it is much more than that. It is a time when our national network comes together to reflect, connect, and move forward collectively. During this gathering, we share stories of success and challenge, exchange ideas, solve problems, and shape the direction of our work together.

The conference component of our AGM creates space for our community to come together with a shared voice - to celebrate progress, learn from one another, and engage in meaningful conversations face to face. Since the pandemic, we have also embraced a hybrid format that includes a virtual participation option, allowing even more people from across the network to take part in this important gathering.

Each year, we choose a theme that reflects priorities and emerging conversations within the Independent Living Movement. Our AGM and Conference Planning Committee works closely with our National Executive Director and Board to design programming that brings the theme to life through presentations, discussions, and collaborative sessions.

Over the years, our AGM and Conference has been hosted in communities across Canada, often in partnership with local Member Centres. More recently, we have returned to hosting this event in Ottawa for several strategic reasons: its proximity to federal decision-makers, the availability of accessible venues, and its central location, which supports travel from across the country.
